Given our roles and the different pressures and scenarios we face daily, we are fortunate to be able to offer bespoke training, delivered over 2 days, with pre-reading and interim ‘homework’, looking at self-care, with an emphasis on empathy fatigue.

The course will be given by Alice Halscombe, who gave such a good presentation at the RWPN AGM.

The training will be in person, with a min number of 12, max 15 participants. It will require attendance at both days: Weds 5th March and Weds 2nd April 2025, 10.30-15.30. The venue for the sessions will be Guide Dogs, Atherton.

The cost will be £100 per person for the full course.

Alison is very much in demand and the feedback from her courses has been very positive, so this is a great opportunity.  For more information, please contact Trish Wildy VRS. Trish.wildy@oldham.gov.uk or 07792 172171.

Alison has sent the following to support why the course is so important.

The World Health Organisation recognises burnout as a legitimate occupational phenomena which results from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed (1). It’s documented that 52% of employees have experienced burnout (2). Keeping psychologically (and physically) well is vitally important when working in any area where we are supporting or caring for others. We know that in theory.

Sadly though, when it comes to actually understanding what wellbeing means for us, and how to handle work’s and life’s challenges, we often don’t know what or how to do what it takes to self-care effectively.

This interactive tailored course will cover:

  • Understanding what empathic fatigue and burnout are, and the causes and biology behind it
  • How it impacts our thinking and behaviour
  • Providing participants with key theories and tools to use to effectively and consistently manage the impact of caring
  • Equip those attending with insights to boost well-being, compassion and happiness, highlighting trusted research.

It has been stated that people are up to 31% more productive when they are in a positive frame of mind than if in a neutral or negative (stressed) state (3). This shows how it’s not only to our personal benefit to develop effective strategies in our well-being, but what great benefit there is for our loved ones, friends and ultimately the organisations and service users we work with.
